Digital cuckoo clocks โ€” always on time, and it sets itself.

โ„– 1What is the Koekoek?

A classic cuckoo clock, brand new on the inside.

The Koekoek is a digital cuckoo clock from our factory in Helenaveen. It calls every hour โ€” as many times as the hour indicates โ€” and once on the half hour. It gets the time from the internet, including daylight saving time, and resynchronises itself every night. No winding required, ever.

Hourly and half-hourly strike

At 7 pm you hear seven cuckoos (12-hour style), one on the half hour. Just the way it should be.

๐ŸŒ™

Quiet at night

Set active hours (07:00โ€“22:00 by default). Outside that window the cuckoo keeps its beak shut.

๐Ÿ“ก

Always the right time

Time over the internet (NTP), automatic daylight saving, and a fresh synchronisation every night at 03:00.

๐ŸŽš๏ธ

Volume to taste

From 10 to 100%, adjustable through the web interface or with a single press of the button on the device.

๐Ÿ“ฑ

Effortless setup

Its own WiFi network Setup Koekoek with a settings page that opens automatically. No app required.

๐Ÿ”Š

Sound on board

The cuckoo sound lives on the device itself โ€” no internet needed for the call.

โ„– 2Set up in three steps

Fresh from the factory? It sings within five minutes.

Turn the Koekoek on

Plug it in and wait until you hear the cuckoo once โ€” it is then ready to be set up.

Join the โ€œSetup Koekoekโ€ network

Grab your phone and pick the open network Setup Koekoek in your WiFi settings, or scan the QR code on the right.

Open the settings page

The page usually opens by itself; if not, go to http://10.0.0.1. Choose your home network, set the volume and active hours, and press โ€œSet clockโ€. The Koekoek restarts, connects and sets the correct time on its own. Done!

Tip: after every power-on, the Setup Koekoek network stays available for five minutes. Want to change something later? Unplug it and plug it back in โ€” you then have another five minutes to adjust everything at http://10.0.0.1. Starting over completely is possible too: hold the BOOT button for two seconds.

โ„– 3The strike schedule

When does it call, and how often?

TimeNumber of cuckoos
Full hourAs many as the hour indicates โ€” 1 pm = 1ร—, 7 pm = 7ร— (12-hour style)
Half hour1ร— โ€” except after the last active hour
Outside active hoursQuiet as a church mouse

If the clock is active from 07:00 to 22:00, for example, the 22:00 strike is the last of the day; after that it stays quiet until 07:00 the next morning.

From the workshop

For those who like to tinker โ€” everything is open.

Every Koekoek is built around an ESP32 with an I2S audio amplifier and a speaker, housed in a 3D-printed enclosure of our own design. The complete firmware, the 3D models and the sounds are publicly available on GitHub:

  • src/main.cpp โ€” all firmware logic: audio, WiFi, web server and clock
  • 3d/ โ€” printable STL files of the enclosure plus the Fusion 360 source file
  • data/ โ€” the cuckoo sound and the spoken messages
